Removals from Chigwell to Italy
Italian Riviera (Liguria), Tuscan established estates, Lake Como established residence. Mature established-property territory — not retirement-downshift, not corporate-urban, not working-coast.
Chigwell-to-Italy moves cluster around three established-property corridors. The Italian Riviera — Liguria's Cinque Terre coast, Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, the Genova-Rapallo corridor. The Tuscan established-estate belt — Chianti, Val d'Orcia, the wine-estate properties, the Lucca-Pisa-Florence triangle. And Lake Como with the established residences along the western shore (Bellagio, Tremezzo, Cernobbio).
Italy is a longer road route — Eurotunnel, then south through France, over the Alps or along the coast to the Italian end. We sometimes route by sea for the longer Tuscan or Liguria-southern moves where timing suits.
Three patterns we see most often.
Italian Riviera established residence
Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, the Cinque Terre coast, the Rapallo belt. Established Riviera-villa territory; long-held family properties.
Tuscan established estates
Chianti, Val d'Orcia, the wine-estate belt. Established family properties in the Tuscan country-house pattern; period furniture, libraries, art collections.
Lake Como established residence
Bellagio, Tremezzo, Cernobbio, the western-shore Lake Como villas. Long-held second properties becoming primary residences.
Italy regions we book moves into.
-
Liguria — Portofino, Santa Margherita, Rapallo
Established Riviera coast. Some addresses need water-access transfer if mainland delivery is not possible; we coordinate.
-
Tuscany — Chianti, Val d'Orcia, the wine-estate belt
Country-estate territory. Long-planned moves to established properties; receiving end usually family-known.
-
Lake Como — western shore established villas
Bellagio, Tremezzo, Cernobbio. Lake-frontage delivery with narrow-lane access common; smaller transfer vehicles at the final leg.
-
Lake Garda and the northern lakes
Lake Garda western shore, Lake Maggiore, occasionally Lake Iseo. Similar pattern to Como — established villa territory.
-
Rome and the Roman countryside
Established Roman apartments in the Centro Storico and Aventino districts, plus countryside properties in the Roman Castelli. Less common but recurring.
What you will need.
We will ask for the items below at the survey or shortly after. The earlier you can get them together, the cleaner the customs paperwork goes through on both sides.
- A complete inventory of the household and any cross-property items being consolidated
- Photo ID, proof of UK address, passport details for any travelling household members
- Codice Fiscale for the receiving household — essential for customs and most utility setup
- Italian property paperwork (atto, rental contract, owner consent letter)
- Receiving contact in Italy: name, mobile, working window
- Notes on access — historic-centre delivery, ZTL (limited-traffic-zone) permissions, lake-access transfer requirements
Chigwell context for this corridor.
We weight the Italian corridor to the established Italian Riviera, Tuscan established-estate, and Lake Como established-residence patterns. Retirement-downshift to rural Tuscany is handled by sister site removals-sevenoaks.co.uk; corporate-urban Milan moves are handled by battersea-removals.co.uk; working-class southern Italy is handled by romford-removals.uk; rural property purchase for restoration is handled by removals-somerset.co.uk.
Post-Brexit moves to Italy are full export-import customs declarations. We work with a customs broker on the Italian side who handles the declarations, residency-status checks, ZTL permissions for historic-centre delivery, and the specific paperwork for art and high-value items.
Chigwell → Italy.
Most moves run by road via Eurotunnel or the Dover-Calais ferry, then south through France to the destination country. Where it suits the timing and the budget, we sometimes route by sea direct. The right routing is the one we agree at the survey.
Italy-specific questions.
Our Italian destination is inside a ZTL (limited-traffic-zone) — central Florence, Rome centro storico, or central Milan. How is that handled?
Standard inner-Italian-city pattern. Our Italian broker handles the ZTL permission, the crew brings smaller transfer vehicles for the final leg, and the delivery window is coordinated with the building.
We have a Lake Como villa with lake-frontage access only — no road delivery to the villa itself. How does that work?
Common on the western shore. The road leg ends at the nearest village; the final leg is by water-boat transfer onto the villa pontoon. We coordinate with a local Como agent; the transfer adds time but is a known protocol on the lake.
We are moving an art collection, the contents of a Chianti country house, and Lake Como furniture — all on one consolidation. Can you handle it?
Yes. Multi-property consolidation with art and country-house furniture is the Chigwell pattern. We survey each origin, plan the load to land at the Italian destination on one window, and coordinate the customs documentation across the combined inventory.
